What wheel diameter do I need?
Swivel castors 250 mm have a wheel diameter of 250 mm. This is the diameter of the wheel itself. When choosing 250 mm swivel castors, always pay attention to the total construction height. This can differ per wheel. In addition, there are castors with a diameter of 250 mm in different materials, load capacities and colours.
What is the total height of a swivel castor?
The total height of a castor 250 mm is listed per product in the specifications as 'build height'. This is therefore the size from the bottom of the caster to the top of the top plate or central hole.
When should you choose a swivel castor 250 mm or a fixed castor 250 mm?
Depending on the application, it is best to use 4 swivel castors (with or without brake) or 2 swivel castors and 2 fixed castors. If you need to manoeuvre the wheels in many different directions, it is best to use 4 swivel castors. If you need to drive in many straight directions, it is better to use 2 fixed and 2 (braked) swivel castors.
The difference between fixed, swivel and braked swivel castors
Fixed castors
Fixed castors are wheels that can only roll backwards and forwards. With this type of castors you can easily drive in one direction.
Swivel Castors with Top Plate
Swivel castors can turn in all directions. The top plate with 4 bolt holes is used to fix the swivel castor.
Braked swivel castors with top plate
Braked swivel castors with top plate are similar to swivel castors with top plate except for one feature. The difference is the braking possibility. Braked swivel castors can be braked so that the wheel can no longer roll and often the direction of rotation is also blocked. Fastening is also with a top plate with 4 bolt holes.
Swivel castors with central hole
This type of swivel castor also rotates in all directions, allowing you to drive in all directions. The swivel castor is fixed by means of one central hole with 1 bolt hole.
Braked swivel castors with central hole
Braked swivel castors with central hole can also turn in all directions. As soon as they are braked, the wheel can no longer roll and the direction of rotation is also blocked. These castors are thus double-braked. Fastening is by means of one central hole with 1 bolt hole.
